My Dog Ate My Night Guard, Now What?

They are soft, fluffy and irresistible. They are your best friend and are always there to greet you at the front door. Aaaand… in addition to eating your homework, or your favorite pair of slippers, they can’t resist the temptation of chomping on your nightguard.

Dogs love ‘em. In fact, dogs are attracted to the saliva, the smell, as well as the material that the various types of mouthguards are made of. Some dog toys are even made of the same materials as mouthguards. How can you blame them for finding them so fun to play with and utterly delicious?

When we introduced our guards to the dental market at the  ADA Summit in Grand Rapids, MI, we learned that “My dog ate my night guard” is the number one reason for a patient requesting a replacement guard. But, in the case of night grinding mouth guards, which run upwards of $400, most insurance plans only cover one guard in a lifetime. Which means that you have to replace it out of pocket.

If you are faced with having to replace your guard and cannot afford another custom made guard from your dentist, you will find that our  SOVA Night Guards are the best alternative. Designed by a team of scientists bringing revolutionary technology to the world of dental protection for night grinding and athletics, SOVA Guards are the new classification of mouthguard .

These affordable night guards are made from a non-compressible, perforated material that better protects your teeth from the impact forces of bruxism. Many mouth guards are bulky, uncomfortable to wear and easy to chew through. The no boil SOVA mouthguard can be molded into a true comfortable custom-fit in a matter of minutes, providing maximum comfort and durability without the use of dental impressions. Additionally, these ultra thin mouthguards (1.6mm) allow for better customer compliance, breathability, communication and hydration.

The bottom line is, all your furry little friend wants to do is please you. It’s not their fault that your mouthguard is just too tasty. But if you replace it with a less expensive alternative, they will never know the difference! Alas, despite your most frugal approach to the situation, the chances are that your dog will find the SOVA night guard just as irresistible. So, love your dog, protect teeth and your wallet by keeping your mouthguard in a case and out of the reach of your best buddy.
